Embedded Content

In the world of the web today, content can come into your website from many sources. Often this content is 'embedded' into the web page.

Tech Note: Content is usually embedded in an <iframe> or <object> tag.  It often requires certain browser functions to be enabled (e.g. javascript) or plug-ins (e.g. Flash).

This embedded content is sent from another server (this server can be anywhere in the world), and is picked up by the server running your website.  It then places this content in a designated area on a web page of your site. Examples include:

This embedded content is entirely independent of your own.  It's an alternative to linking away from your site - providing fresh content while keeping you visitors on your site.

Make sure it's relevant

Make sure the content you are getting in relates to your own content and your target audience.  It needs to be updated frequently too - keep those return visitors.

Don't over do the embedded content

While all this is great, embedding can be misused.  Don't plaster your page with content from lots of different sources - stick to a few good quality sources.
